Knife Appearance

You have just purchased a new knife and perhaps it doesn’t look like you had expected. The metals used in your knife (brass, nickel silver, steel etc) naturally tarnish over time and the knife can become dull in appearance. Your knife can be restored to looking beautiful again by using a high quality polish such as you would use on jewellery or silver.

Knife Sharpness

If you have purchased a high quality knife you would expect it to be razor sharp. Most new knives are very sharp but occasionally factory sharpening may not meet expectations. Don’t judge the knife by this! Get the knife sharpened by someone who knows what they’re doing.

Knife Care

  • Keep your knife sharp and clean. Sharp blades will cut easier and safer.
  • Always keep your blades clean and dry. Perspiration and fingerprints are a major cause of discolouration and staining on knives.
  • When cleaning, do not use harmful materials that may damage the knife.
  • Carbon Steel blades naturally darken with age and doesn't affect performance. Such blades are also not guaranteed against rust or discolouration.
  • Stainless Steel blades are resistant to rust, stain and corrosion.
  • It is recommended that knife blades be occasionally wiped with a light oil to give them added protection.
  • When not in use do not store the knife in a leather sheath for extended periods as the leather can retain moisture, which may affect the knife.
  • Lightly oil any moving parts such as pivot pins and joints occasionally to ensure smooth operation.
  • To preserve a leather sheath apply quality leather preservative such as Neatsfoot Oil.
