Puma is one of the most respected names in the knife business and a great example of German design and workmanship. Puma is one of the famous trade-marks that gave Solingen its name "City of Knives". Founded in 1769 their knives have long been respected for their top class quality and durability. One of the features of Puma knives is the subjection of each knife to ROCKWELL testing. During this process the blade is tested for its hardness by pressing a diamond into the steel with a determined load. Most blades will carry this mark, which looks like a pin prick in the blade. The depth of the penetration is Rockwell C, abbreviated as RC or HRC, and often stamped on the blade. Blades measured below 57RC are scrapped. Thus the buyer can be assured that Puma blades are of the highest exacting standards.
